When most people think of dental emergencies, they think of having a tooth chipped, knocked out, or dental trauma from a car accident. However, your mouth is incredibly complex, and sometimes the emergency could be below the surface level.
Oftentimes, when patients that have not received preventative dental care in a long time experience a sudden toothache, the underlying cause is a cavity or infection.
When an infection reaches the center of the tooth, known as the pulp, it requires root canal therapy, which should be done as quickly as possible to prevent further discomfort and complication.
There is a common misconception that root canal treatments are incredibly painful. However, modern root canal treatments are as painless as a routine cavity filling and end up relieving pain. At Vero Dental Spa, we offer emergency root canal therapies, so we can treat your infected tooth and relieve discomfort as soon as possible.
What is Root Canal Therapy?
Root canal therapy is required when a tooth’s root becomes damaged from a large cavity or dental trauma. When a cavity caused by bacteria grows to reach the center of the tooth, it can become infected and inflamed, causing a lot of pain.
During a root canal, we numb the tooth with an anesthetic, and open the pulp chamber at the top of the crown to clean the inflamed root. Then, we use advanced technology to file and clean the infected pulp in the tooth’s canals. Next, we irrigate the tooth to clean the canal and remove any debris, before filling the canals with a permanent filling material to keep it clean of infection.
